Should you get close to your people?


When I first moved into a leadership role, I had a lot of people tell me that I shouldn’t get close to my people. Some of my mentors, at the time, would go on and on telling how “you can’t be friends or let them get close to you.”

  1. Great points! It can be a very hard line to walk sometimes, because the employees that are also our friends can struggle when we do have to discipline. I like the goal that we should keep them focused and avert issues when we can.
