Managers, like most people, will lie to themselves. It’s to make them feel better and protect their own ego. Sometimes it easier to cloud the truth, than to face it. So here is the list on the most dangerous lies anyone in a leadership role tell themselves. Just a warning, this is truthful so it may hurt a little. Just remember the old quote, “The truth will set you free, but first it will make you mad.”
I’m here to be served
A numerous amount of positional leaders (meaning the only influence they have is their position) think that as soon as they move into a position, they are now some kind of king and they are the ruler of their tiny little kingdom. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Think back to all the rulers of the past, who was the most influential and who was the most infamous. A leader’s job is not to be served, but to serve. If you are sitting there waiting to be served, you are stationary. How then will people FOLLOW you?
