How to Catch Crabs!

There’s a certain crab that is elusive and clever enough to get out of any trap. Yet, it is caught everyday by the thousands, thanks to a particular human trait it possess. A wire cage with a hole in the top is lowered into the water containing bait. A crab finds the cage and soon starts munching on the bait. More and more crabs enter the cage and soon it’s an incredible crab feast. Eventually all the bait is gone, but more and more crabs continue to enter the cage.

  1. Ian Munro says:

Interesting analogy and I like the conclusion. While I agree that we humans do behave like the crabs, we do normally have one advantage. The crabs actually do attack physically and do harm. Humans attack emotionally, and as such if we have developed our emotional IQ sufficiently we can defuse these attacks with our self awareness. Questions such as “is that true for me?” or “what is really happening here?” when asked with an open mind (and heart) will reveal to us that the pull back into the trap is not real.

  3. One of the best lessons I’ve tried to teach T and his cousins is to lift each other up. That it’s okay if someone has skills/talents that you don’t. You don’t have to try and “one up” them, and you shouldn’t pull them down. You should do everything in your power to lift up and encourage each other. 🙂
