I think of the times as a young kid, I’d talk myself out of asking a girl to dance for the same reason. Filling my head with negative scenarios instead of positive. Glad I learned to just do it.

  2. Sometimes there is nothing harder than taking that first step and we can be so scared to take it that we talk ourselves out of it! Fear is so very powerful and can wind its way into our lives so slowly and softly that we don’t recognize it, and pretty soon it is holding us back. Afraid to ask, afraid the answer will be no, afraid we will fail… We will talk ourselves out of so much if we give into fear.

I saw that the other day and it stuck with me – You have to let your faith be bigger than your fear and that young man just needed faith in himself and his neighbor!

Very well written. Completely agree. Take control over your mind and it will be a great tool. Let it control you, and that’s (above) what happens. Perfect!

  4. My family call crazy thinking “Mental Kung-Fu”. just the image os disorderly, negative thoughrs battling for supremacy elicits laughter and laughter ALWAYS destroys crazy thinking

    Great point!!!!

  6. One way to deal with this is to remind ourselves ‘IF NEVER ASK, NEVER KNOW’. Doesn’t cost anything to ask.

This is such a great parable. It’s amazing how we can talk ourselves out of the good things in life before we even take the first step to make them a reality. The key is to be open and allow yourself to just go with the experience before passing judgment on how it will turn out.

  8. What a great post and so true!

  10. We have to be careful what we think…because what we are thinking today…will be how we are living tomorrow! For better or worse…it is our choice. We can make up our minds to say no more stinkn thinkin!- each time we recognize our thinking is out of line with our faith!!
