Totally agree Cranston – great post! You can learn more from riding along in the car with an employee than you can from years of ‘performance evaluation’ or KPI setting! Simple yet seldom employed as a management practice.
Very true. You must be in the sales industry.
Was I that transparent? 🙂 Yep, sales rep ride-along’s and coaching are the 2 biggest drivers of improved sales performance by a country mile. Probably more so because the employees are feeling like you actually care, than anything else…
Thank you so MUCH.
Excellent point! I’ve always been one to jump in and help, never realized that it had so many implications!
You do the right things and don’t even realize it.
Hit the nail on the head Cranston. The best way to find out what’s going on is to be on the work floor with your staff. Listen and you will learn about roadblocks they face and get great suggestions on how to improve the process. Couldn’t understand why the night crew was doing so poorly on hitting their goals and found out the night supervisor just sat in the office. Employees won’t climb ivory towers to talk but will give you great info in the trenches.
That’s a GREAT example!!!
